A WONDERFUL ANTIDOTE TO WORRY

In my readings this morning, I came across a great piece in Attitudes of Gratitude in which the author, M.J. Ryan, shares a story about a Vietnamese Buddhist monk by the name of Thich Nhat Hanh. He had endured all kinds of hardships when in Vietnam including the killing of his family and friends, and yet he had found a way to survive with peace and love in his heart. When asked how he had stayed loving and positive he replied that every morning he used to ask himself what he could count on that day. Sometimes it would be the blue sky or the brown earth and the fact that he was still breathing and moving. In counting his blessings, he connected to the miracle that he was, at least for the present moment still alive in this beautiful world. We can live life to the fullest when we are aware of living it moment to moment. When times are tough try getting up each morning and ask yourself what you could count on that day both externally-a roof over your head and internally-the deep love and trust you have with a friend. It is a wonderful antidote to worry and opens you up to gratitude.
So try the loving act of asking What Can I Count on Today knowing that as we learn how to appreciate the miracle of just being alive, we will find the peace and strength to face life's challenges as they come. It's the Loving thing to do for Yourself.
Be Well, Molly
