'TIS THE SEASON

Tis the season to be jolly but so often folks become "Grinches" and don't seem to enjoy the gifts of this season which really have nothing to do with material things. The gifts of this season are truly inside gifts as we create new memories and experience family and friends and celebrations. It is a time to go within and connect with our Spiritual center remembering that it is all about LOVE.
Unfortunately I see so many folks get anxious and unhappy that they have to spend time with people they really don't want to be with or because they put financial pressure on themselves and then can't really enjoy their giving. Many folks feel torn because they must choose between which parent's house to go to or, if divorced, working out where they children are supposed to be.
All is calm is not necessarily what I witness folks being. Quite the contrary. I see many folks bitching and moaning and groaning over this and over that, rushing everywhere, and taking with them negative energy that totally dampens the holiday spirit of those around them. People get angry over parking, over having to wait, over having to get a Secret Santa gift at the office; anxious over what people will think about their house or their gift choices; and depressed because they just "hate this time of year."
One year my Mom fell and broke her kneecap a few weeks before Christmas. Her first response was "how am I going to get everything done? how can I shop?" She was so upset and anxious for a while. Then the magic happened and Mom just got still and decided to change her mind about what this accident that made it hard for her to move around had done.. She looked at me one day and said, "I guess this happened so that I would stop and really be present for every moment of this holiday season. I think I was supposed to slow down and just enjoy time with family and friends." I know that Christmas that year was different for it was calm and it was jolly. My Mom looked at the accident as a gift and in so doing changed how she felt about it. The best present you can give yourself and others is the gift of  BEING PRESENT enjoying the here and now not worrying about tomorrow or next week. Being totally present with those around you at the office or in the mall or at the party will fill your heart with joy and will certainly keep your body calm and healthy and energized.  Give yourself a gift this holiday season and each day decide to experience calm and to be jolly no matter what the challenges. You have the choice to create a magical and memorable holiday or one that creates chaos, upset stomachs and bad attitudes.
